John Pipers work grabbed my attention because he began this series of work when he made a trip to Wales in search of waterfalls. This is something I want to do myself because of the imagery I took from Annie Besant’s quote I found. I was also drawn to the dramatic lines and the dark hues he has used to illustrate the landscapes, with also commonly a gesso background to add texture to enable a sense of the rough rocks and the wildness of the climate. In some of the work I saw, I also picked up on quite architectural lines and shapes, as if showing the raw foundation of the scenery.
